About this pattern
My son asked me to knit him a pair of socks, but since I am not a huge fan of sock knitting, I procrastinated. I love the architecture of the knitted sock, but don’t like knitting two of anything. Also, he wanted KNEE SOCKS! And because he’s a guy: no cables, no lace, nothing fancy, i.e., stockinette only. Yawn. But since his 21st birthday was coming around (and because I’ve really missed him since he moved out, LOL), I pulled out the needles and made him a pair.

Size
The pattern is based on the notes I made while knitting up these socks for my son. They should fit an average-sized person (circumference just below knee = 12.5”; circumference of widest part of calf = 14”; circumference at ankle = 9”). Sock length and foot length are adjustable.

Yarn
Main Colour (MC): ONline Supersocke Cotton 100 Saturn Color (41% Cotton, 39% Wool, 13% Nylon (Polyamide), 7% Polyester). Contrast Colour (CC) = Cascade Heritage 150 Solids.

Yardage
Approximately 1.25 skeins MC (575 m/ 630 yds) and approximately 0.15 skeins CC (65 m / 75 yds)

Skill Level
Advanced beginner. You should be able to do K1P1 ribbing; SSK & K2tog decreases; short rows; know how to pick-up stitches, and know how to knit with magic loops..

Pattern Notes
These socks are knit from the top-down, using “magic loops.” A thicker gauge of yarn was used for the cuff, heel flap and toes for added sturdiness. The body of the sock is knit with an elastic-y yarn, as knee socks do tend to slide down. To help with this, there is some shaping down the calf. The heel is knit with a turned heel using the contrast colour. The rest of the sock is pretty standard, and finished with a contrast coloured toe. These aren’t fancy, but they get the job done.
