SKILL LEVEL: intermediate or adventurous beginner.

SKILLS NEEDED: cast on, knit in the round, knit and purl stitches, knitting two stitches together, yarn over, slip stitch, basic cables. Additional techniques are explained with photo and video tutorial.

NEEDLES: 7mm (10.75 US) circular or five double pointed needles AND 6mm (10 US) circular or five double pointed needles.

YARN: The stockinette gauge for this pattern is 12 stitches and 18 rows per 10cm.

The original hat is made with two strands of aran weight yarn. Alternatively, you can use approximately 145 meters (159 yds) of bulky/chunky-weight yarn of your choice and knit with one strand. Yarn requirements do not include pom-pom.
