I came up with this pattern when I wanted to make a hat for my husband that didn’t look too feminine and wasn’t too plain. I have since adapted it and changed it to use a whole host of colours depending on what I have in my stash. This adult hat can be used with your favourite DK yarn or aran yarn and in any two colours that you wish. It is soft, stretchy and warm. This hat fits an adult with quite a bit of stretch due to the ribbing. If you want the beanie to be oversized (as some people prefer I would add 4-8 more to the foundation chain and a further 2 rows following the colour pattern. This is a good pattern for someone who is moving on from being a beginner to gaining some extra techniques making their work more refined. I’ve also made a Ribbed, Striped Scarf to match so look out for that post if you would like a great, cosy set for the winter.

I prefer having a foundation treble crochet to making a foundation chain for this hat because you can build your first row and connect the ends to then carry on crocheting in the round.
