Welcome to my Advent scarf for 2021. It will be an infinity scarf that is knit circular, similar to the structure of the 2017 Advent scarf. The scarf will feature a combination of Fair Isle patterning and Japanese stitches. You can use as many colours as you like or just a few colours. Two colours would be the minimum number you could use. I am using 7 colours. You will need 800-1200 yards of fingering weight yarn.
There are two size options. The large scarf will be 68 inches long and the shorter scarf will 36 inches long. Both lengths will be the same width of 7.5 inches high. The scarf is knit circular starting with a provisional cast on, with a knit in fold line, and then the 2nd half of the scarf is knit. The two halves are finished with a 3 needle bindoff, which mimics the fold line.

Two different size needles are used to accommodate for the difference between stranded knitting the textural component of Japanese stitch pattern.

It would be possible to knit this scarf with just 2 colours, but the stranded sections could incorporate several colours. The design has used 7.

This year the scarf will be hosted in my new group, Zemy’s Deck
