This is a beautiful, practical wrap! The stitch pattern is mesh, allowing for cooler spring or air conditioned days, and also allow for embellishment if you decide to weave ribbon or a contrasting yarn through the finished fabric.

Use single, double and treble crochet stitches to make this elegant wrap. Great for the beginner who is ready to move on beyond single crochet.

The wrap also works up quickly, so it makes a great last-minute gift. The mesh allows for an elegant drape. If you choose an angora blend, the soft halo truly brings the piece up to a luxury item.

This beautiful wrap’s design sprung from the news of a colleague embarking on a real life adventure: traveling the continent of Africa – solo - for a year. I was stunned and elated that she planned to tackle such an interesting way of living for twelve months. Planning on starting in Cape Town, South Africa and heading north, she would decide on each leg of her trip every three weeks or so. This wrap was meant as a “safe travels” gift for her forthcoming adventures, and I wanted it to be versatile for several situations. The design features I incorporated are:

  • Luxury fiber suitable for formal occasions 
  • Open mesh for warmer days, or air conditioned environments
  • Blue color appropriate to match with more casual jeans
  • Sizing generous enough to wear as a wrap and narrow enough to be folded over for a scarf
  • Could work as a head covering (for a visiting American, anyway) if that would be culturally appropriate
