“After the glitter fades” is a sweater design for yarn with glitter, sequins or any other built-in special affects.
Apart from the „Lacy stars“ pattern on the neck edge and sleeves (and optionally a bit on the lower body, too), the design is quite reduced and mainly sets the stage for the glitter of the yarn.
Färbebengel, the indie hand-dyer from a small northern town who uses Hamburg references in all of her yarn names, has aptly called the yarn “St. Pauli“ and the color “Nachtschimmer“.
(I have decided to use Reverse Stockinette because it seemed to me that more of the sequins appear on this side. You could work part of the lower body inside out in Stockinette, if this is easier for you. Or take special care when weaving in the ends and wear the sweater from both sides. Or simply work the body in Stockinette instead of Reverse Stockinette.)
Needles: Main needle size is 3,75mm. (3,0mm/ 3,25mm for neck, hem and cuff.)
Gauge: 23 sts x 34 rows in Stockinette after blocking.
Worked at a gauge of 21 sts on 10cm, you could go down 1 size
Yarn: Approx. 880/ 930/ 1000/ 1070/ 1140 m of a Fingering weight yarn needed.
For my sample, I have used Färbebengel “St. Pauli“ (41% Polyamide, 34% Mohair, 14% Polyester, 11% Mulberry Silk; 190m/ 50g).
Available sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL (with a bust circumference of 92/ 100/ 110/ 118/ 128 cm)
Worked at a gauge of 21 sts on 10cm, the sweater will turn out appox 10%/ 1 size bigger.
The sweater should be worn with 10cm ease at bust.
Overview:
These are the steps to work the sweater, top-down in the round:
• Step 1: Upper body: Cast on stitches, close to round and work neck edge with lace pattern. Place markers to separate back and front from sleeves: Only the sleeves will be continued in lace pattern; back and front are worked in Reverse Stockinette. On back and sleeves, Raglan increases are worked every 2 rounds.
To shape a rounded neck on the front (which has started with a few stitches more than the back), Raglan increases are only worked half as often, complemented by radial yoke increases every 16 rounds.
• Step 2: Lower body: Separate into body and sleeves and continue body in the round, first in Reverse Stockinette only. Optionally work a few increases for a light A-line shape. Starting at the waist, work diagonal lace panels at the sidelines and end with a hem in allover lace pattern.
• Step 3: Continue sleeves in lace pattern, up to 2/3 or desired length, with regular decreases.
