I was driving home with my daughter the other night, when a storm started and stopped within 10 minutes, leaving us with an absolutely gorgeous double rainbow, and me with an idea for a thick textured cowl with a single contrast stripe. Once I sat down to play with my yarn, I wrote this pattern which includes instructions for a scarf, a single or double loop cowl, or a V-cowl with optional buttons and fringe. I chose to use neutral yarn for the main color and I dove into my scrap bin and held multiple thinner strands together for the contrast stripe, but feel free to let your imagination run wild!

The main portion of the scarf or cowl is worked in bulky or super bulky weight yarn, but you could easily adjust the pattern for a lighter weight yarn, or hold several strands together to use up stash yarn.
