This pattern was inspired by Hermione Granger, one of my favorite characters in the Harry Potter books. It’s a great combination of practical and feminine, much like Hermione herself. I can just imagine her curled up in the library with a stack of books around her, wearing these cozy socks on a cool, sunny afternoon.

Afternoons in the Library were designed toe-up on magic loop, but they can be knit top-down as well. Just insert the stitch pattern on the front of your sock and knit the heel and toe you would like.
