The Agnodice shawl is a grand, sweeping triangular piece whose motifs draw inspiration from the elegance of Greek art. Starting from the center, the project grows with each increase to become a true work of art to wear. Although the charts may seem impressive, or even intimidating, working them is actually wonderfully simple.

This design pays tribute to the legend of Agnodice, who according to Hyginus’ Fables, was the first female physician of ancient Greece. As you knit, you will uncover a fragment of her story with every new section. More than just an accessory, this shawl is a journey through time and history, one stitch at a time.

GAUGE
21 stitches x 32 rows = 10 cm (4 in) in stockinette stitch worked flat with your smaller needles, after blocking.

Blue (C3): 265 m / 75 g

The sample was knitted using Belle by Artfil in the colorways: Pluie d’été (C1), Orange éclatée (C2), and Crépuscule (C3). Kits are available on the Madolaine website

Le châle Agnodice est une pièce triangulaire d’envergure, dont les motifs s’inspirent de la finesse des arts grecs. Débutant par le centre, l’ouvrage grandit au fil des augmentations pour devenir une véritable œuvre d’art à porter. Bien que les chartes puissent paraître impressionnantes, voire intimidantes, leur réalisation est en réalité d’une grande simplicité.

Ce modèle rend hommage à la légende d’Agnodice, qui selon les Fables d’Hygin, serait la première femme médecin de la Grèce antique.
