Aida the Mermaid is pretty and fun. She loves to frolic in the shallow waters enjoying the warm sunshine.

Aida the Mermaid is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in English using US (American) terminology. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.

Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item. My Aida is approximately 17cm tall (6 ½ inches).

You will need:

  • 2.5mm hook/C-2 (US)
  • 8ply yarns/DK – less than 50g in HOT PINK, BLUSH, PINK, NUDE and LILAC
  • BLACK 4ply yarn or embroidery thread
  • A pair of 6mm safety eyes
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Polyester toy stuffing
  • Stitch marker (optional)

Notes:

  • Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
  • When changing colour, pull through the new colour on the stitch before you need it. This will ensure that you have the correct colour yarn on the hook for the upcoming stitch.
  • Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
  • I’ve used Hello Knitting Yarn (DK Cotton) in the following colours: o HOT PINK = Pinkish Orange 112 o BLUSH = Baby Pink 109 o PINK = Light Pink 101 o NUDE = Beige 128 o LILAC = Lilac 141
  • I have used safety eyes but you may choose to embroider. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
