Aks Scrunchie
Aks Scrunchie is a cute scrunchie with the characteristic heart-stitch structure which decorates many of my designs. The Aks-series is a collaboration between Quistknits and Sangstrikk and you will find matching patterns in both designer portfolios for women and children. The heart-stitch gives the scrunchie an airy and voluminous texture and it stays put in the hair.
The scrunchie is worked in the round on small circular needle or with magic loop. The heart-stitch structure is worked all over the work until desired width. Finally, a hair-tie or elastic is inserted and the live stitches are worked together with the cast on edge at the same time as binding off. Alernatively, you can cast on with Judy’s Magic Cast-on and assemble with kitchener stitch.
I prefer to use a yarn which does not felt for my scrunchies, as I also wear mine in wet hair. Silk, superwash wool and plant fibers are all good alternatives for making scrunchies. You can also use an untrated wool, but then you need to be more carefull when using the scrunchie.
The green scrunchie in the pictures in the pattern is worked in Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair in the color 8581 Dyp Skoggrønn (two strands held together). Beige scrunchie is knit in Sandnes Garn Line in the color 3042 Café au Lait.
