This is the Mystery Sock (MOCK) for May 2017 in the Sock Knitters Anonymous Group. being part of the group is not a pre-requisite for knitting the sock, but everyone there is very friendly and happy to help out, so why not join us?

The parts of the pattern will be released throughout May 2017 to the following schedule:

Part1: May1st
Part2: May 8th
Part3: May 15th
Part4: May 22nd

Since this is supposed to be a mystery, I have structured the parts so that each part introduces something new; something that could not have been deduced from the previous parts. For this reason, the parts are not equally sized. In fact, that last part is the one that is probably the most complicated and the longest, but you do not have another part after that, so there is no pressure to finish before the next bit gets released…

You will need around 100gr of a 4ply sock yarn as your main colour. When choosing the colour go for the most solid option available; anything heathered or melange will obscure the pattern, and I would steer clear of tonal or hand painted, but it’s your sock, so it’s your call. Lighter colours are probably better than darker ones, I went for a light solid grey for my sample sock.

You will also need some contrast colours – the full version uses 5 contrast colours as well as the main colour, and you will only need a couple of grams each. Since this will involve a lot of sewing of ends I have also provided a stripped down version with just a single contrast colour. If you are using only one contrast, make sure it stands out well, and you will need about 15 gr.

More details will be added as and when they will no longer spoil the mystery.
