This pattern was originally presented as part of the Knit Stars virtual conference, and is still included as a download for year one. It is based on Alcyone, a pattern in 7 Small Shawls, Year 1: The Pleiades.

This shawl is dedicated to my cousin Steve, whose boat is named Alcyone. When Steve gifted 2 kayaks to our boys, he asked only that I knit him an Alcyone Shawl to keep on his boat, along with a signed pattern. When I began to knit, I couldn’t help but change it (I don’t think I’ve ever knit a pattern without changing it somehow - even if it’s mine!), and the inspiration for this special version took shape.

Without Steve, my family never would have realized how wonderful kayaking is, and never would have so thoroughly explored Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe. So when I asked Melissa of Sweet Fiber to dye up a special colorway, it was based on the colors of this lovely place.

Sample shown is tall size.
