The Alder Creek is low in the summer, burbling over gravel beds, gently meandering around cliff and through field. When the rains come to the coastal hills, salmon swim against the pushing current to spawn in those beds. And in the darkest gloomiest of Januaries and Februaries, the now roiling river sweeps along with it branch and boulder.

Throughout these seasons, the Alder Creek sets rhythm and pace for those who live along its banks and this vest is meant to be a piece for wear to match them all. The button placement also allows for multiple styling options: classic vest or form fitting cross-front. A total of nine, one-inch buttons are required.

The vest worked seamlessly, starting from the bottom up with the back hem, and each panel is worked on its own from the shoulder down.

SIZES
∙Chest measurement is designed to include 2-4 inches of positive ease, but because of the open underarms this measurement could be quite forgiving depending on preferred styling.
∙Waist measurement is with both sides and front buttoned and may be less forgiving than chest measurement.
∙Length is easy to adjust for a more specific fit; included in the pattern is a schematic and suggestions for making size adjustments.

finished measurements, inches
chest: 32 (26, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64)
waist: 26 (30, 34, 38, 42, 46, 50, 54, 58)
length: 15 (15.5, 16, 16.5, 17, 17.5, 18, 18.5, 19)

finished measurements, cm
chest: 81 (91.5, 101.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5, 162.5)
waist: 66 (76, 86, 96.5, 106.5, 117, 127, 137, 147)

YARN
∙Manos Del Uruguay Marina, laceweight 100% superwash merino, held double throughout. Approximately 874yds/800m per 100gr skein. Shown in ‘arboretum’.
∙Suggestions for making yarn substitutions are included in the pattern, but generally a yarn labelled light fingering weight would be a good substitute when held double; follow the listed yardage estimates.
∙A sport weight held singly may work for this project because the fit does not depend on extensive shaping. A slightly larger gauge (4-6 fewer stitches per 4in) would result in an overall larger garment when working the same size instructions. If gauge is significantly larger with a sport weight, consider following the instructions for one size smaller. Halve the listed yardage estimate.
