The PurlBee has some good photos on how to do Fisherman stitch.

Materials: 2 different yarns in a worsted weight, approximately 100 yds needed for each color. One variegated (CC) and a second a solid color (MC)that complements it.
I’ve used
•Lion brand Amazing with a solid Wool Ease
•Bernat Sheep(ish) by Vickie Howell 2 coordinating colors.
•Bernat Mosaic Yarn with Full O’ Sheep from RedHeart both are discontinued though.
Notions:
5 stitch markers, or at least one
stitch holder
Gauge:
Your rib stitch should be about 10 stitches by 12 rows for 2x2” is for the fisherman rib stitch section, it is naturally stretchier and wider than a normal rib stitch. You only need to use smaller needles on the brim if you want it tight, for a loser fit use the same needles as the body.
