All That Glisters is a shawl inspired by the Golden Ratio, a mathematical expression of the perfectly proportioned image. The Golden Ratio has been widely used in art, most notably in the works of Leonardo da Vinci and Salvador Dali, and the architecture of Le Corbusier. The ratio is expressed as 1 to 1.618033, and I have used these numbers to produce a sequence of stitches which, when worked the same on every row, produce a striking reversible pattern.

This design is a memorable sequence of stitches, rhythmic and contemplative. It can be knit in any weight of yarn, and this pattern gives calculations for light fingering/sock, 4ply/fingering, DK, and worsted weights. It is a scarf, a stole, or a lapghan/baby blanket, and any of these can be knit lengthways or widthways. Numbers are given for all six options in all four weights.

A table of finished sizes can be seen in the photographs, as well as a table of approximate yardage requirements.

Tools:
Needles, either straight or circular (for the widthways versions you may need 120 cm / 48” or 150 cm / 60” long circulars), are suggested in these sizes to obtain gauge:
Light Fingering/Sock: 3 mm US size 2.5.
4ply/fingering: 3.25 mm US size 3.
DK: 4 mm US size 6.
Worsted: 5 mm US size 8.
Crochet hook 0.5 mm larger than the knitting needle used, for cast on and cast off.
Stitch markers, as many as you find helpful (optional).
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Blocking mat, wires and pins (optional).

Tension:
Tension is not critical for this pattern, but will affect size obtained and amount of yarn required;
Light fingering/Sock: 24 sts and 38 rows = 10 cm / 4” on 3 mm US size 2.5 needles in pattern.
4ply/fingering: 22 sts and 32 rows = 10 cm / 4” on 3.25 mm US size 3 needles in pattern.
DK: 20 sts and 30 rows = 10 cm / 4” on 4 mm US size 6 needles in pattern.
Worsted: 16 sts and 28 rows = 10 cm / 4” on 5 mm US size 8 needles in pattern.

Details of all four samples knit in various yarn weights and orientations are given in the pattern.

This pattern has been thoroughly professionally tech edited, but has only been test knit by myself. Full pattern support is available by emailing me at the address given in the pattern.
