This hat pattern is knit flat and starts with larger needles (8) going down to a size 6 needle to create a slope effect and accent the vintage style of this design. I start with a provisional cast on and bind off using the 3 needle bind off on the rights side of the fabric but turn the seamed tube inside out and use the wrong side of the fabric as the right side of the hat.

Once the body of the hat is done the crown is knit by picking up the stitches along the top of the hat and finishing can be either the twist on the side or you can use buttons or vintage pins.

I have made these hats with any yarn from a worsted to a light bulky. Just pay attention the the width of the hat as you dont want it to be too slouchy. 8 1/2-9” wide max.
