The textured pattern of the lower body is like a carpet of small flowers! And that’s what I find in the nature right now.
After the looong winters in Scandinavia it is very welcome seeing all those small flowers building carpets to admire.
And here’s a cardigan to enter the spring and summer:)

Design and construction
This classic cardigan features a crew-neck, raglan-shaping of the yoke, a lower body in stitch-pattern, button-bands and long sleeves.
The cardigan is worked top down and seamlessly.
The neckline is shaped by short-rows to achieve a lower front neck.
The yoke is shaped by raglan-increases. The lower body is worked back and forth to bind-off. The sleeves are worked in the round.
Button-bands are worked from picked-up and knit sts.

Sizes
There are 7 sizes to choose from:
Finished chest measurements, after washing/blocking and worked at gauge: Size 1: 0 – 3 months: 44.5 cm/17.5”
Size 2: 3 – 6 months: 48 cm/19” Size 3: 6 – 9 months: 51 cm/20”
Size 4: 1 year – 18 months: 54 cm/21” Size 5: 2 – 3 years: 57 cm/22.5”
Size 6: 3 – 4 years: 63 cm/24.75”
Size 7: 5 – 6 years: 66 cm/26”
The sample is worked in size 2, 3 - 6 months.
The grey sample is worked in the smallest size, using Madeline Tosh, “Tosh Merino light”

Materials
Yarn: I recommend a fingering weight yarn with great stitch-definition, that works up to gauge. I used the fingering weight yarn ”Song” from Hesselgarn, in the colourway S11, to work the cardigan.
Of this specific yarn you will need approximately 250/300/325/350/400/450/500 m = 275/330/355/385/440/490/550 yards. Needles: a 60 cm/24” circular needle, size 3 mm/US2.5 to work the body and button-bands.
A set of DPNS, size 3 mm/US2.5 (or the circular needle if working the magic loop) for the sleeves.
Notions: 8 removable stitch-markers, waste yarn, blocking tools, 6/7/7/8/8/8/8 buttons, 12 - 13 mm/0.5” across.

Gauge
26 sts and 38 rows/rounds in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”

The pattern
The stitch-pattern is written out, row by row.
There is a schematic.
The button-bands are written out with distances between the buttonholes.
All measurements are imperial and metric.

Techniques involved

• Cast-on
• Bind-off
• Short-rows (to work an elevation at the upper back)
• working a simple, textured pattern
• working flat and in the round
• picking up and knit sts along the fronts for button-bands

Skill level
I consider this pattern easy and suitable for an adventurous beginner. As well as interesting enough for and advanced knitter.
