About the Pattern
This traditional yoked sweater was designed for my friend Allison, and is knitted in “jumper weight” Shetland wool which is equivalent to 4-ply or fingering weight. The patterns are traditional Fair Isle, with a blend of colours, but never more than two colours in each round. It was fun to go through my – ahem – large stash of Shetland jumper weight wool and choose colours over a cuppa.
The body is worked in the round from the bottom up, with optional waist shaping. Sleeves are also worked from the bottom up, then body and sleeves are joined to form the circular yoke. Short rows below the colourwork and at the back neck make for a comfortable fit, with a snug neckline.

Finished measurements (after blocking)
Finished bust/chest circumference 83.5[94, 104.5, 115, 123.5] {134, 144.5, 155, 165} cm/ 32.75[37, 41.25, 45.25, 48.5] {52.75, 57, 61, 65} inches.
The photo shows the 2nd size (S) worn with approximately 8 cm/3 inches of ease at the bust.

Yarn Quantities:
MC: Jamieson and Smith Supreme Jumper Weight in Gaulmogot, 6[7, 8, 8, 9] {10, 11, 12, 13} 50g balls. This yarn is also available in 500g cones.
CC1: Jamieson and Smith Jumper Weight, 1A natural white, 1 25g ball.
CC2: Uradale Jumper Weight, Aess, 1 50g ball, or Jamieson’s Spindrift, Mogit, 1 25g ball.
CC3: Pale blue hand dyed yarn, or Jamieson’s Spindrift, 660 Lagoon, 1 25g ball.
CC4: mid blue hand dyed yarn, or Jamieson’s Spindrift in 676 Sapphire, 1 25g ball.
CC5: blue/green hand dyed yarn, or Jamieson’s Spindrift in 688 Mermaid, 1 25g ball.
CC6: Jamieson’s Spindrift, 243 Storm, 1 25g ball.
CC7: Jamieson and Smith Jumper Weight, FC46, 1 25g ball.
CC8: Jamieson and Smith Supreme Jumper Weight or Uradale Jumper Weight, Moorit, 1 50g ball, or Jamieson’s Spindrift, Uradale, Moorit, 1 25g ball.
CC9: Jamieson and Smith Jumper Weight, FC68, 1 ball.
Note that it is difficult to be accurate in estimating quantities of these yarns in the small amounts used. However, CC2 and CC3 require the largest amounts, which will each be approx 13g for the smallest size and 20g for the largest. CC9 is only used in 3 rows and only requires a few grams. Other colours will require from 7-10 grams each.
This pattern would also work using a single background colour and a variegated contrasting yarn.

Gauge
23 sts and 38 rows to 10cm/4 inches in stocking/stockinette stitch using 3mm needles.
25 sts and 34 rows to 10cm/4 inches in stranded colourwork on the yoke, using 3mm needles.
Both stitch and row gauge are important when working the yoke.
