Allotropes are different structural forms of the same element. This richly textured hat with its lattice of cables reminds me of diamonds in knitted form as it uses cleverly placed purl stitches in place of more complex smocking to create a lovely textured effect. The sophisticated all over cable pattern is fairly easy to execute making this a great project to learn how to cable without a cable needle. For anyone who’s a little scared of cables, this might be just the project to get you going. The final piece is very simple and wearable – and it comes in lots of sizes, so you can knit it to fit and flatter any head!

Finished Circumference: 15”/38 cm (17”/43 cm, 19”/48 cm, 21”/53 cm)

1 skein of Madelinetosh DK will make any of the sizes.
