Alongside Bag

A simple and versatile everyday bag with a beautiful textured linen-stitch fabric and a softly shaped silhouette.

The Alongside Bag is knitted from the top down in the round, using linen stitch to create a dense, structured fabric with a subtle woven appearance. Once the body reaches the desired length, the stitches are divided to create the shaped bottom, which is closed with a neat three-needle bind-off.

The knitted handle is worked separately in linen stitch and sewn securely to the inside of the bag. The pattern also includes instructions for adding a fabric lining, giving the finished bag extra stability and durability.

The bag comes in two sizes, making it easy to choose the one that suits your everyday needs.

Sizes

Small: approximately 35 × 40 cm
Large: approximately 40 × 45 cm

Yarn
Approximately:

Small: 600 m DK-weight yarn
Large: 840 m DK-weight yarn

The sample is knitted in Sandnes Garn Line.

Gauge
32 stitches × 47 rounds = 10 × 10 cm in linen stitch after blocking.

Needles

3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle, 80 cm / 32”
3 mm (US 4) for knitting the handle

Techniques
The pattern uses linen stitch, worked both in the round and flat. Basic knitting skills, increases/decreases, seaming and three-needle bind-off are required.
