This bright ABC crochet pattern design features all the letters of the alphabet on individual panels that can be joined up into a blanket, play mat or a wall hanging of a name. This pattern is perfect for beginners as each individual panel uses very few colors.

This pattern will show you how to make this design using any method you like! The row by row pattern can be used with single crochet, double crochet, puff stitch or knitting. The grid can be used for C2C, cross stitch or any other creative purpose. The grids come numbered along the sides for easy row/column counting.

Difficulty Level: Beginner

Finished Size for Single Crochet version using medium weight yarn: Each panel is approximately 12 inches wide by 10 inches high after the borders are added. Each panel before borders is a 34 by 34 grid. Total blanket size is approximately 60” x 60”.

For other methods you can work it out: the whole pattern is 200 wide by 240 high. Each square is 34 by 34 - see how big one ‘stitch’ of your chosen method is.

Basic Method for Single Crochet Version: Make each 34x34 grid tile as shown. Add 3 rows of single crochet border all the way round - one blue, one white, one blue. Then join all the squares together using the same blue.

Recommended Materials for Single Crochet version: Crochet hook - 5mm. Large bodkin/tapestry hook for tidying up the ends. Yarn: Any medium weight (4) yarn.

White/base color: 2 balls
Blue/border color: 1 ball
11 other colors: Light Blue, Orange, Pink, Grey, Yellow, Green, Brown, Light Brown, Dark Blue, Purple, Red: less than one ball/scraps.
