Alucard Cowl
Inspired by the imposing Alucard from the Hellsing universe, this little cowl is covered in myriad red eyes.
Worked entirely in the round, this fully lined cowl uses stranded colour work to create a repeating eye pattern. At most, you will be using three colours at the same time, but thanks to the short, straight-forward pattern repeat, it is a good starting point for someone embarking on their first project using three colours.
Materials
• 50g (1 ball) each of Drops Flora in the colours 06 (black, C1), 02 (white, C2), and 18 (red, C3).
o Any fingering weight yarn that achieves gauge will work.
• 3.25mm, 26” (or longer for magic loop) circular needles.
• Extra set of circular needles for grafting.
• Tapestry needle
• 4mm crochet hook
• Waste yarn for provisional cast-on
• 1 stitch marker
Techniques
• Provisional crochet cast-on.
• Knitting and purling in the round.
• Stranded colour work using 2 and 3 colours in the round.
• Kitchener stitch.
Gauge
28 stitches and 38 rows per 10x10 cm (4x4in) in gently blocked colour work.
The stitch gauge is the most important as this ensures you can get the cowl comfortably over your head. You can always knit more or fewer rows to make your cowl the desired length.
Sizing
The pattern is written for 3 Adult sizes: A (B) C; 50 (53.5), 57 cm unstretched circumferance.
The sample is knitted in size A.
The size can be adjusted both width- and lengthwise by knitting more or fewer repeats of the colour work chart.
