The Alvor shawl was inspired by the yarn colours you can see in the sample; I saw the beautiful Enchanted Forest Fade from Skein and the Stitch and immediately knew I needed those colours in my wardrobe. I wanted to explore the ways in which these colours could fade, mix and contrast with one another and a combination of garter stitch and brioche seemed like the perfect way to do so. I worked on this sample whilst holidaying in the small town of Alvor in southern Portugal, where the colours of the sunrises and sunsets perfectly matched the colours of the shawl.

CONSTRUCTION
Alvor is worked sideways, from the tip of one wing to the other, with mirrored increases and decreases forming a symmetrical triangle. The shawl is edged with an I-Cord and features sections of garter stitch and one- and two-colour brioche to create textured colour play. The second half of the shawl mirrors the first half.

SAMPLE
The wearer is 5’10” / 178 cm with a 37” / 92.5 cm chest circumference. The sample has been worked to pattern, without modification.

SIZING GUIDE
This shawl is written in one size.
The following measurements are for the finished accessory:
Shawl Width: 82” / 205 cm.
Shawl Depth: 24.5” / 61.5 cm.

GAUGE
Achieving exact gauge is not essential for this design; however, gauge can be checked once you have worked to the end of Section 8 (p.7).
Using 3.5 mm / US size 4 needles, at the end of the Section 8 on p.7, your (wet blocked) work should measure ~8” / 20 cm in width and 6” / 15 cm in depth. (Here, width should be a measure of the number of rows worked and depth should be a measure of the number of sts on your needles.)

YARN
The sample has been created using Skein and the Stitch’s Enchanted Forest Fade on their Classic Sock base (75% Superwash Merino / 25% Nylon; 400 m / 437 yds per 100g).

YARDAGE (includes ~10% excess)
C1: 80 m / 88 yds / 20 g.

C4: 332 m / 363 yds / 83 g.
