The “Always By Your Side” socks are inspired by my best friend, Brillo. These socks celebrate the joy, loyalty and presence of the animals who walk beside us. Whether you are honouring a loyal dog, a curious cat, or any furry friend who has padded along beside you through life, these socks are for you.

There are 4 sizes and you are welcome to use any 4ply sock yarn you please, providing gauge is ok.

To fit foot circumference with 2cm negative ease.

Size 1 - 19cm foot circumference (Approx. 55g required, 216 metres / 236 yards)
Size 2 - 20.5cm foot circumference (Approx. 68g required, 272 metres / 298 yards)
Size 3 - 22.5cm foot circumference (Approx. 85g required, 338 metres / 370 yards)
Size 4 - 25cm foot circumference (Approx. 140g required, 560 metres or 612 yards)

These are toe-up socks, using techniques such as Judy’s Magic Cast-on, short rows for the heel and some 2 stitch cables for the charted paw motif. There are written instructions for the construction of the sock, and a chart for the paw print motif and surrounding crest. Video links are included for demonstration.

Project Information

2.5mm circular knitting needles, 80cm cord (or size required to get gauge)
1 skein Yarnsmiths Merino Sock - 4 Ply, 75% wool, 25% nylon, 400m per 100g. Sample photograph uses shade: Chocolate Brown with leftover hand dyed yarn from Cookston Crafts in colourway “I’m a Believer”. Providing gauge is met, please use any 4ply sock yarn of your choice.
Notions: 4 stitch markers, darning needle, scissors
Gauge: 34 stitches by 48 rounds to 10cm, using 2.5mm needles

As a guide, the sizes included in this pattern range from shoe size 2 (UK), 34 (EU) and 3 (US) up to size 13.5 (UK), 59 (EU) and 14 (US).
