Worked in small ‘granny squares’ which are joined together according to the maze diagram and instructions, this blanket gives a practical buggy blanket or play mat depending on the finished size. It also gives an opportunity for youngsters to develop their perception and senses by working out the path through the maze. In fact, it’s 4 mazes in one – top to bottom and bottom to top, then flip it over and there are 2 more mazes to decipher!

The 4 page pattern details the construction of a 10 by 10 cell maze which is detailed in a maze diagram. The blanket can be made from 2 colours, or you can raid your yarn stash for oddments to make a multi-colour design, providing they are of the same quality and twist. If you decide on a specific pattern of colours, it would be useful to crayon the colour of each cell square on the maze grid to judge how your blanket might look when finished.
The blanket in the photograph is made from ‘Robin’ DK yarn with a 4.00 mm hook. The pieces are 3-round ‘no-holes’ granny squares with a ‘doubled’ double crochet join together, and an all-round double crochet border. Its finished size is approximately 32 inches x 32 inches. Smaller squares (2 rounds) or a larger maze plan (e.g. 20 x 20) will give different blanket sizes, and of course a larger maze is more difficult to solve!
