Ammolite is the name given to the gem produced from the fossilized remains of ammonites. Ammonites were cephalopods that lived in ancient oceans; when the ammonites died, their shells fell to the bottom of the sea and were covered with sediment and aragonite, a mineral in the sediment, permeated the ammonites’ shells and turned them into iridescent, opal-like ammolite fossils. The colours of ammolites range through the entire colour spectrum making them the perfect inspiration for this rainbow-coloured cowl.
