Amplify Cowl
Amplify Cowl is knit flat and seamed to create an easy-to-wear accessory. The undulating pattern of elongated stitches showcases variegated yarn between garter stripes and reminds me of sound waves. The companion Amplify Hat also plays on this theme utilizing different stitch patterns and techniques.
I suggest two yarn recommendations, a US-based farm yarn and a South American, hand-dyed yarn broadly available at local yarn shops (LYS). Both producers offer a range of beautifully variegated yarn with an extensive color palette.
Morehouse Farm Merino is a buttery-soft farm yarn. Founded in 1983 in the Hudson River Valley of New York State, the farm imported two superfine Merino rams in 1987 with the goal of reintroducing the breed in New England. Today, this exceptional wool is still 100% grown and processed in the United States.
Malabrigo Caprino is a luxuriously soft fine wool and cashmere blend from a family-owned company sourcing fiber from Uruguay with operations in Peru. Colorways are often inspired by nature.
Dimensions: 21 (25.5)” / 53.5 (65) cm circumference. See schematic for depth information.
Yarn and Yardage Requirements: Approximately 230 (300) yards / 210 (274) meters total; 170 (220) yards / 155 (201) meters of MC and 60 (80) yards / 55 (73) meters of CC.
Needles: US 3, 24” (3.25 mm, 60 cm) circular or straight needles, or whatever needle meets gauge
Gauge: 17 stitches x 28 rows in 4” (10 cm) squared, in pattern, on the bias, after blocking. Blocking will affect the gauge and fabric, especially due to the nature of elongated stitches. Gauge is not critical but will affect final dimensions and yardage/meterage requirements.
Notions: 2 stitch markers, 1 removable stitch marker, tapestry needle
