Anga

Long days spent watching the clouds drift past accompanied by the gentle clicking of needles are simply the best. Some days I crave simplicity in my knitting – all I want is to knit round and round as I let the world pass me by – on other days I want to focus my mind on the twists and turns, carefully guiding my stitches to their new places on the needles.

Anga is the perfect balancing act between easy breezy stocking stitch and beautifully twisted cables. Worked from the toe up these delightful, summer inspired ankle socks feature some interesting additions for those who love to experiment with their sock construction.

The simple foot gives way to a small gusset (unusual for a short row heel) that means you get a better fitting heel. The short row heel is created using German Short Rows for beautifully clean turns, stopping in the middle for a special connecting boomerang round to link your heel to your foot, enhancing the fit and reducing the possibility of unsightly holes at the heel joins. The cuff is worked in a beautifully intricate twisted rib cable, that is far easier to knit than it looks. The finishing touch is added with a tubular cast off that highlights the ribbed details on the cuff.

Anga means sky in Swahili, a Bantu language widely spoken in the Great Lakes and Eastern region of Africa. A part of the world that holds a special place in my heart.
