Angelique is a lightweight shawl, beginning with a peacock tail beaded lace edging and flowing seamlessly into a short-row stockinette body. It is named for my good friend Angelique, whose favorite color is exactly this colorway.

Finished Size: 18” depth, 74” wingspan

Yarn: Mrs. Crosby’s Reticule Lace (100% Superwash merino wool), 840 yards/4 ounces, approximately 420 yards; or, any other heavy laceweight or light fingering yarn.

Needles: 32” circular needle, size 5 US (4.5mm), or size to obtain gauge. Needle one size larger to bind off.

Beads (optional): 6/0 seed beads, crochet hook to bead as you go. Three beads are required for each repeat.

Gauge: 16 stitches/30 rows per inch in wet-blocked stockinette stitch; gauge is not critical for this item but will affect yardage and drape. Unblocked stockinette 6 stitches per inch. Sample was knitted with 420 yards Reticule Lace in colorway “Peacock”.

The body of this shawl is shaped by short rows using wrap and turn. If you are unfamiliar with the technique, instructions are provided; and, several excellent video tutorials are available online.
