Annie the Axolotl is a happy little amphibian who loves to walk the ocean floor! Always smiling, she loves to spend her days under the water.

Annie the Axolotl is a part of my Baby Sea Creatures collection – there’s six cute designs available as individual patterns or as an e-book. A special thanks for Hobium Yarns who sponsored the yarn for the collection, I’ve used Hello Knitting Yarn (DK Cotton) for all the designs.

Annie is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in English using US (American) terminology. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.

Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item. My Annie is approx. 16cm long.

You will receive one PDF file which requires software like Adobe Reader to open (this is free to download).

You will need:

  • 2.5mm hook/C-2 (US)
  • 8ply yarns/DK – 50g MAUVE, a small amount of PURPLE and PINK
  • A pair of 8mm safety eyes
  • BLACK embroidery thread or 4ply yarn
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Polyester toy stuffing
  • Stitch marker (optional)

Notes:

  • Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
  • When changing colour, pull through the new colour on the stitch before you need it. This will ensure that you have the correct colour yarn on the hook for the upcoming stitch.
  • Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
  • I’ve used Hello Knitting Yarn (DK Cotton) in the following colours: o PURPLE = Lilac 139 o MAUVE = Lilac 141 o PINK = Light Pink 101
  • I have used safety eyes but you may choose to embroider. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
