Annie's Bag
A free version is also available.
This crochet shoulder bag features the lovely x stitch. Annie’s Bag is a large crochet tote designed to have a sturdy, solid bottom. This tote bag pattern is both a fun and useful summer crochet project. The open side details makes for an interesting bag. The x stitch or crossed treble crochet is my favorite part of this crochet shoulder bag. Especially when it’s crocheted in contrasting colors to the bottom and strap. Crochet this beautiful bag in your favorite cotton yarn. That makes it usable in real life, because then you can wash it. I love that part about cotton yarn, so soft and washable.
Annie’s Bag is a roomy, stripe-detailed crochet tote worked from the bottom up in the round, sized for real-life hauling: 15” tall, 12” wide, and 29” to the top of the strap. If you can single crochet and follow a color sequence, this pattern is built for you.
Construction and Technique
• Worked bottom up, in the round with no flat seams to sew
• Single crochet throughout; gauge is 4 sc x 4 rows per inch
• Stripe colorwork is worked by simply switching colors between rounds, no carrying or tapestry technique required
• Intermediate skill level: comfortable reading round-by-round instructions and managing color changes
Materials
• I Love This Cotton! (Hobby Lobby), 100% cotton; 300-360 yards total depending on stripe layout
• US Size 9 / 5.5 mm crochet hook
• Stitch markers, scissors, tapestry needle for weaving ends
Sizing
• One size: 15” tall (body), 12” wide, 29” total length including strap
• Oversized fit makes this an ideal market bag, beach tote, or project bag
What’s Included
• Complete written pattern in English with round-by-round instructions
• Tutorial notes to support intermediate crocheters through construction and color transitions
Cotton yarn keeps this bag structured and washable, a practical pairing for a bag that’s meant to be used. Make it in two contrast colors for bold stripes, or work a tonal gradient for something softer. Either way, Annie’s Bag finishes quickly and holds up beautifully.
