Very easy, quick and warm fingerless mitts that are knitted on double pointed needles (but could easily be done with magic loop method). The photo shows a pair i knitted in possum and merino, but any double knit works well. The meterage suggested to deliberately vague, because the double knits tend to have such varied weight/meterage ratio. The possum merino i used only took 50 meters, but a pure wool pair i made took more like 80 metres.
The pattern is for a standard ladies hand, but you can adjust the length by adding more rounds at the wrist part. Likewise you can make for bigger or smaller hands using more and fewer stitches (just make sure that the number of stitches can divide by 4, so that you can keep K2, P2 rib correct.
