The Polyphemus Moth (or Antheraea Polyphemus) is a giant silk moth found statewide in Illinois. It has two eyespots on its wings to ward off predators. It has feathery antennae, which are larger in males than females. It lives in both urban and forest areas. Adult Polyphemus moths do not feed, and only two generations per year are produced.

I hope you enjoy Antheraea, a new pattern I’ve designed featuring Illinois wildlife. This pattern includes instructions for full and fingerless versions of the mittens and features my interpretation of the Polyphemus moth with large eyes on her wings.

NOTE: Testers have found that a plump fingering weight yarn can be used in place of sport weight with no issues in gauge.
