This is a basic sock recipe for any size sock knitted in the round using any yarn weight and needles to achieve any gauge. This is your chance to learn the maths to go with top down sock construction with a turned heel. After working through this pattern you will be completely independent because it can be used to knit any size sock in any yarn.

Yarn: choose a yarn and appropriate double pointed needles. Work a tension square and you are ready to start. As the name suggests sock yarn is a popular choice which is worked on dpns sized between 2.5 mm and 3.25 mm but feel free to make a chunky or double knitting pair of socks if you prefer.
Sizing: To make the right size you need to measure around the wearer’s ankle, decide how long the leg part should be and also measure the foot length from toe to heel.

Notions: Yarn needle
Stitch marker (optional)
Tape measure
