The ‘Any Yarn Will Do’ crochet cardigan is a relaxed fit, top-down raglan cardigan pattern. It has a gentle v-neck shape, long sleeves and can be made with or without buttons. You can easily adjust the length of the body to suit you preferences.

The pattern is designed to work with any of 5 yarn weights including 4ply / fingering / sock weight, double knit, aran / worsted weight, chunky and super chunky. The pattern for each yarn weight is written out separately so you are essentially getting 5 patterns in one!

Skill Level
The pattern has been designed with beginner garment-crocheters in mind and includes a host of extra supporting information such as:

  • Guidance on swatching and adjusting your gauge
  • Tips for choosing the correct size
  • Tips for crocheting the yoke (including using stitch markers)
  • A photo guide to splitting the yoke
  • Tips for starting the sleeves without any underarm gaps
  • A photo guide for adding the button holes
  • Guidance on making adjustments for a custom fit

This really is much more than ‘just’ a crochet pattern! If you’ve never crocheted a cardigan before, I got you covered. And if you’re more experienced, you may pick up some tips too!

This pattern uses simple stitches, basic increases and decreases working in rows and in the round.

The pattern is written in English using US standard crochet terms.

Sizing
For each of the 5 yarn weights, the pattern is written in 7 sizes from XS to 3XL (finished chest from 88-154cm, with some variation between yarn weights).
Approximate measurements of the finished cardigan is are given in the pattern along with guidance and suggestions for personal alterations.
The cardigan is a relaxed fit around the chest (with around 15cm of positive ease) with more closely fitting sleeves (7-11cm positive ease).
The items pictured are all size Small, worn by me (a UK 8-10, 5’2”)

Materials
As the name suggests, this pattern will work with any yarn from 4ply to super chunky and a suitable size crochet hook, so long as you can meet one of the 5 gauge options. I have detailed the yarns and hook sizes I used for the samples in the pattern as a guide.
The amount of yarn needed will depend on the yarn weight you use and the size you are making. Approximate yarn requirements for each yarn weight and size are included in the pattern.
You can have fun with your colourwork and make this a great stash busting project!
