This pattern was a collaboration with Desert Blooms Yarn using their absolutely sublime Lush Base, a blend of baby alpaca, silk and cashmere. Both of these colors represent the Apache Plume. When it blooms in the spring (and sometimes in fall) the pink, silky -plumed seed heads develop and cover the tips of the branches for several months. The Apache Plume flowers are made of beautiful white petals. I felt a more neutral color would represent this best. I live in the New Mexico desert and I have an Apache Plume in my garden and its one of my favorites! I hope you enjoy knitting this as much as I did!

Difficulty - Intermediate - the main body of Apache Plume is worked in two colors, a Main Color (MC) and a Contrasting Color (CC). Purl ridges and YO’s in your two chosen colorways play together to create a fun and simple shawl body. The wide knitted on border is really where all the fun is! Apache Plume is a great knit for adventurous beginners and experienced lace knitters alike.

Construction - This shawl is knit top down with increases on both sides to create its crescent shape. When the body is finished, the stitches for Apache Plume’s lace edging are cast on using a knitted CO. The border is knit back and forth joining the last stitch of every RS row together with a stitch from the main body.

Needle - This sample was knit on US size 6 using a 30 inch circular needle.

Dimensions - 55 inches wide x 20 inches in depth (Picture is included to show the dimensions)

Yardage - 800 yards of CC and 400 yard of MC. Generous yardage has been added to account for looser knitters. When my shawl was completed, I had roughly 266 yards remaining of the CC and very little of the MC. But I made my shawl BIG!

Gauge -8 rows = 1 inch and 5 stitches = 1 inch in blocked stockinette
