Apéro vest is not just for summer! The idea for the design was born in the heat of the summer lockdown while longing for social connection. It was inspired by memories of hot summers in the South of France, sharing a bit of Rosé on ice with my friends during the apéros we enjoyed.
But the apéros in winter were just as fun :)) With a layering piece like this, the possibilities are endless. As long as the yarn is fingering weight, you can make the vest as cold or warm as your heart desires.

All stitch patterns are fully written and fully charted so you can work with your preferred method. Every stitch and technique used has a link to a video demo on YouTube. Detailed schematic and measurement table is included.

Sizes: XS (S, M, L) ((1X, 2X, 3X)) 4X
Finished bust:

  • 83.5 (92, 102.5, 113.5) ((122, 132.5, 146.5)) 154.5 cm
  • 33½ (36¾, 41, 45½) ((48¾, 53, 58½)) 61¾“

Designed to be worn with 3-13cm / 1-5” ease, to fit busts with circumference:

  • 70-79 (80-89, 90-99, 100-109) ((110-119, 120-129, 130-139)), 140-149 cm
  • 28-32 (32-36, 36-40, 40-44) ((44-48, 48-52, 52-56)) 56-60“

Yarn: Fingering weight, depending on the length of the vest, allow approximately:

  • 570 (620, 730, 830) ((890, 1010, 1150)) 1250 m
  • 620 (680, 800, 910) ((970, 1100, 1260)) 1370 yards

Yarn used in sample (size S) is 2 skeins of Feliz y Punto Lincot (60% Cotton/40% Linen, 350m/100g), Salvia Gray colourway.

Gauge: 22 sts & 32 rows = 10cm / 4” in Stockinette stitch, blocked.

Suggested needles:

  • 3.25mm (US 3) circulars 60cm / 24” for main fabric,
  • 2.75mm (US 2) straight or circulars for button band.

Notions: Stitch markers, row counter, scissors, tape measure, stitch holders or waste yarn, tapestry needle, removable stitch markers or bobby-pins if using Japanese short rows, 4-5 buttons (25mm / 1” diameter).

Techniques used: Cable cast-on, lifted increases, i-cord edging, short rows, 3-needle bind-off, double-knitting, 1-row buttonholes.

Difficulty: Intermediate.

Construction notes: The vest is worked seamlessly flat from the top down. Each Front and the Back are worked separately with increases down to underarm, then all pieces joined and worked straight down to hem. Button band and straps are knitted on last.

Other notes: For this project, you should use Japanese or Yarn over short rows. The instructions assume that you make an additional stitch or loop at every turn either by trapping the yarn with removable stitch markers/bobby-pins (Japanese Short rows) or making a yarn over. This stitch/loop is then used to conceal the gaps in subsequent rows. The instructions indicate how the loop should be worked with the stitch immediately after the turning point in order to close the gap.

Izmēri: XS (S, M, L) ((1X, 2X, 3X)) 4X

  • Piemērots augumiem ar krūšu apkārmēriem: 70-79 (80-89, 90-99, 100-109) ((110-119, 120-129, 130-139)), 140-149 cm
  • Pabeigtas vestes krūšu apkārtmērs: 83.5 (92, 102.5, 113.5) ((122, 132.5, 146.5)) 154.5 cm

Dzija: Plāna dzija (fingering weight), atkarībā no vestes garuma, aptuveni nepieciešams: 570 (620, 730, 830) ((890, 1010, 1150)) 1250m

Izmantotās tehnikas: Valdziņu pieaudzēšana no malējā valdziņa (cable cast-on), paceltie pieaudzējumi (lifted increases), i-cord maliņas, nepabeigtās rindas, 3-adatu noraukums, dubult-adījums, 1-rindas pogcaurumu veidošana.
