Aperture is a large half-pi shawl with reversible colourwork. The shawl is worked from the top down. For Lauren Wallis, the floats of a colourwork pattern are just as beautiful as the face, and this was a chance to showcase both. The high contrast of black and white emphasizes the crisp lines compared with the blur that the floats achieve. Establishing each section of the shawl takes a bit of concentration, but once you have completed the set-up, you can just follow along with the row below.

Yarn: Tandem by West Wool (90% Falkland merino, 10% Texel wool, 250 yds / 230 m – 100 g). 4 skeins of colourway Birch Tree (MC) and 2 skeins of colourway Mouse (CC).

Or approx. 900 yds / 830 m (for MC) and 450 yds / 420 m (for CC) of DK weight yarn.

Needles: US 6 / 4 mm 60” / 150 cm circular needles (for colourwork sections and BO), US 4 / 3.5 mm 60” / 150 cm circular needles (for double knit sections).

Notions: Crochet hook G-6 / 4.0 mm, stitch markers, tapestry needle.
