Appose is a shawlette worked from side to side using beginner-friendly intarsia in two colors. Weigh it at the start and increase until you’re halfway through, then decrease.

Finished Size: 23x50” once blocked
Yarn: Chaos Fiber Co. Variegated Merlin, 80% Superwash Merino/20% Nylon, 420 yards/100g; Chaos Fiber Co. Tonal Deluxe, 75% Superwash Merino/25% Nylon, 460 yards/100g.
Sample knit in Faded Glory and Mauvelous.

Needles: 24” circular needle size 4 US (3.5 mm), or size to obtain gauge

Gauge: 16 stitches/ 32 rows per 4 inches in wet-blocked stockinette using variegated Merlin. Gauge is not critical for this item, but it will affect drape and amount of yarn used.

Notes:
This shawl is knit from one end to the other. Weigh your variegated yarn at the beginning, knit the increase portion of the shawl until you have used half (or just a little slightly less) of the variegated yarn, then begin decrease portion. For this purpose, a scale which measures grams is best. Sample used 86g (361 yards) of variegated and 26g (120 yards) of tonal. You may knit this shawl with any yarn, at any gauge.
Don’t let intarsia scare you. It is simply a matter of twisting the two yarns together when you change from using one color to the next. There are several excellent tutorials available online if you require demonstration.
