Earlier this year I had the opportunity to visit Aptos, California. A gorgeous little seaside community in the northern part of the state. It is the perfect place to relax, knit, and take in the beautiful views. This shawl is designed to look like the soft waves breaking on the beach.

The Aptos Shawl is an asymmetrical shawl worked in fingering weight and worsted weight yarn. It starts with 4 stitches with increases very other row, alternating the yarns. Pattern stitch is worked until all the worsted weight is use, then the ruffle is created with the fingering weight. The result is a fun, lightweight shawl with a great texture.

This is a great beginners shawl. The stitches used are knit, purl, yarn over, knit 2 together through back loop, and knit front and back in same stitch.

Gauge is not crucial to this pattern.
