I wanted to make an easy-to-wear summer top that had enough detail to make it interesting but was classic and simple so it could be a wardrobe staple. Knit from the top down in one piece with no seams this drop shoulder pattern is simple but will suit many different body shapes. There is the option to add more to the sleeves if you want more arm coverage. There is a small split hem at the back, which is slightly longer than the front, but this is again customisable as is the overall length that you decide suits you best. Can be worn over a long top or shirt in cooler weather.

Yarn
Worsted weight yarn 50g: 90m / 98yds

Samples knitted in:

Vinnis Colours Bambi: Organic Cotton 70% Bamboo Viscose 30% 50g: 88m/96yds

Notes about yarn choices:

  • I would recommend looking for a yarn with plant based fibres for this summer top.
  • You could use 100% cotton or cotton bamboo, linen or even a small % silk blends.
  • Remember plant based fibres do not hold their shape as well as wool, bamboo is heavier and can grow vertically if hung, and all plant-based fibers will grow in width with wearing and washing so feature this into picking your size.
  • The Rowan Breezed yarn is now discontinued but it was in my stash and I am a great believer in using what you have and saving money and the planets resources. While the slubby textures gives this yarn a specific finished look you could easily substitute with a yarn that gave you a similar gauge, look for a yarn with the same yardage per 50g.
  • Linen yarn will feel quite crisp and stiff in the beginning, but it will soften and drape with washing and wear.

Yardage: 630 (670, 720, 785, 880, 990, 1085, 1170, 1290, 1340, 1375, 1425) m / 688 (732, 787, 858, 962, 1082, 1186, 1279, 1410, 1465, 1503, 1558) yds
