This small lap blanket was inspired by my favorite classic Aran-style sweater layout. An elaborate version of the traditional central lattice is flanked by chunky horseshoe-type cable panels and textured side panels, then finished off with ribbed borders.

This piece is very straightforward to knit, and makes a warmly recognized and familiar addition to any setting. While the size is perfect for a small lap blanket, it’s also suitable as a baby blanket, and is a piece that continues to be usable as the child grows.

The layout is fully charted and has row-by-row written directions.
