Arapaima is the ultimate One Skein Wonder. This pattern is intended to be knit from a single 100 gram ball of fingering weight yarn, which usually range anywhere from 400 to 500 yards.

Because of the varied yardage as well as the individual knitter’s gauge, it can sometimes be hard to predict if there will be enough yarn to complete a shawl like this without running short.

The outer edging of Arapaima is designed with this conundrum in mind. Once you reach a certain point in the chart, you can stop at any time. If you’re running short of yarn, stop where you are and bind off on the next row. If you have enough yarn, continue all the way to the end of the chart.

…And if you still have more yarn after that, continue repeating the last 2 rows for a thicker border. Knit to your desired length.
