The Archive Loop is a perfect starting point to jump into journal knitting. You will find everything you need in this pattern to learn how to document your journaling focus question and create a practical but luxurious, wearable journal.

Yarn
Barker Wool: 2 skeins of Fern in Serenade, and 1 skein of Gossamer in Indigo.

You may need more depending on your journal focus and if you plan to journal longer than one year. Choose colors that provide good contrast like paper and pencil on a written page.

Finished Measurements: 56” circumference x 8” wide.

Needles
US 6 (4mm) on a 16” cable, plus a second set of the same size to use for grafting.

Notions
Tapestry needle, scrap yarn, crochet hook for provisional cast-on, stitch markers

Gauge 26 STS x 32 Rows = 4” x 4” in stockinette using Fern alone.
Adjust needle size to obtain correct gauge.

This project is designed to give you space to journal over the course of a year. Please take the time to gauge and decide how many rows you will need to knit per day if you decide to use a different time designation. For example, if this process is focussed on a shorter season in your life, like a countdown to vacation, gestation, medical treatment, etc., then you may need to knit more than one row a day to end up with a loop long enough to wear doubled as intended. If you are tracking an open-ended season like grief, addiction, kindness, etc., then you could shorten or omit the foundation sections.
