Arctic Bloom Sweater
The Arctic Bloom Sweater is knit in one piece from the top down. After working the neckline ribbing, short rows are worked at the back of the neck to improve the fit. The colorwork pattern is worked while shaping the yoke with increases. The sleeves are then separated from the body and placed on hold on a stitch holder, and the body is continued down to the hem ribbing in an easy colorwork pattern before binding off. The sleeves are then worked in the same colorwork pattern as the body.
YARN
Vuonue Tilta (70% Finnish wool, 30% recycled Finnish wool, 230 m / 100 g ≈251 yd / 3.5 oz), or any other DK-weight yarn.
In the photos: colors Naantali (MC) and Natural White (CC).
You will need 4 (4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6) skeins of MC ( main color) and 3 (3, 3, 3, 4,4, 4) skeins of CC (contrast color).
Or any other DK-weight yarn:
MC: 710 (740, 835, 955, 1050, 1110, 1205) m ≈776 (809, 912, 1045, 1149, 1215, 1319) yd
CC: 510 (545, 580, 655, 690, 725, 765) m ≈558 (596, 634, 716, 754, 793, 837) yd
NEEDLES & NOTIONS
3.5 mm (US 4) circular needles of suitable lengths (e.g., 80–120 cm / 31–47 in) for working ribbing and 4 mm (US 6) circular needle of suitable length (e.g., 80–120 cm / 31–47 in) for the body and yoke. If your tension is very tight, consider going up a needle size for the colorwork so it doesn’t pull too tightly.
Note: The pattern gauge is based on 4 mm (US 6) needles, but always use the size needed to achieve the correct gauge.
Additionally: stitch holders or waste yarn, stitch markers, and a tapestry needle.
GAUGE
16 stitches × 28 rows = 4”× 4” / 10 × 10 cm in stockinette stitch worked in the round on 4 mm (US 6) needles.
SIZE
XS, S (M, L, XL) 2XL, 3XL. Finished bust circumference: 85, 90, (100, 110, 120) 130, 140 cm ≈33½, 35½, (39¼, 43¼, 47¼) 51¼, 55 in. The pattern also includes a more detailed size chart with the sweater’s measurements.
The pattern is designed with approximately 4 in (≈10 cm) positive ease, meaning the sweater should be about 4 in (≈10 cm) larger than your actual bust measurement. Choose the size with a finished bust roughly 4 in (≈10 cm) larger than your own. Before starting, measure the fullest part of your upper body. For example, if your bust measures 100 cm (≈39¼ in), choose size L, which has a finished bust of 110 cm (≈43¼ in). This ensures the sweater has enough ease for a comfortable fit.
