Arctic Convoy Cowl

A companion to the hat, to honour the Arctic Convoys that left from Loch Ewe on their perilous wartime journeys. Inspired by the palette of the Arctic Convoy tartan, all proceeds from the sale of these designs supports the work of the Arctic Convoy Museum in Aultbea.]1

The small size of cowl is shallower, and is designed specifically to make use of any kit yarn left over after making the hat. The large size cowl can be made instead of the hat.

Pattern notes
This cowl is knitted from side to side. After a provisional (winding) cast-on, the body of the work is knitted in stockinette stripes, which are shaped to create a bias fabric, with each stripe divided from the next with a contrasting welt. After being knitted to the desired circumference, the final stripe is joined to the cast-on stitches with a three-needle bind off, creating a neat and seamless tube. Two i-cord edgings are worked around the top and bottom edges of the cowl for a neat finish.
