Pattern notes
This hat is knitted flat, from side to side. After a provisional (winding) cast-on, the body of the work is knitted in stockinette stripes, which are shaped to create a bias fabric, with each stripe divided from the next with a contrasting welt. After being knitted to the desired circumference, the final stripe is joined to the cast-on stitches with a three-needle bind off, creating a neat and seamless tube. The top edge is then gathered in and secured to form a crown to which an optional pom- pom may be added. Stitches are picked up around the bottom edge and a garter stitch and i-cord brim completes the hat.
