Arcus Bucket Hat
ABOUT
Introducing the Arcus Bucket Hat, the ultimate summer accessory, worthy of a fashion editorial. When I needed a colorful sun hat for a vacation that met all my expectations, the Arcus bucket hat was created. Its seamless construction offers a flattering fit for all head sizes, incorporating decorative into a day-to-day staple. Made from breathable cotton yarn, or any type of yarn you have at home. The hat provides just the right amount of coverage, shielding your head and face from the sun while keeping your outfit looking gorgeous. Perfect for using up scrap yarn, it’s a quick, enjoyable project that makes for a thoughtful, handmade gift!
Level of difficulty: Advanced beginner
WORKFLOW
Worked top down. You will start by making a magic loop. From there, you will increase and work in the round until the bucket hat is the desired length.
SIZE
One size.
Laying flat the bucket hat is 36 cm wide (brim measurement) and 23 cm long. Note that the material allows for some stretch. The pattern is easily modified to make it wider and/or longer if desired.
SUGGESTED YARN
Approx. 100 g yarn in total. I suggest yarns that can be held double or single and meets gauge.
Note that the given yarn consumption is only an estimate and can vary according to the gauge and yarn of choice.
This pattern is designed to be a scrap friendly project, so feel free to use any yarn you have on hand! The goal is to achieve a thickness that works well with a 5.00 mm crochet hook.
Example of yarns I held together to meet gauge for the pattern:
- Borgo De Pazzi, Hannah Lyocell, (held single).
- FRAYA, 100% cotton 8/4 yarn “Colorful” (held double). Or just
- FRAYA, 100% cotton 8/8 yarn “Honest” (held double).
SUGGESTED TOOLS
- Crochet hook 4.0 mm.
- Tapestry needle to weave in the ends.
GAUGE
5 rounds following the pattern should measure 10 cm across.
TECHNIQUES
- Magic circle.
- Double crochet.
- Slip stitch.
