“This is the Arkenstone of Thrain,” said Bilbo, “the Heart of the Mountain; And it is also the heart of Thorin. He values it above a river of gold.” ~ J. R. R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

Arkenstone is my first knit sweater design, so it is very special to me.
For years, I wouldn’t knit myself sweaters because I didn’t feel confident
About how my body looked after having my three children.

This sweater is me proving to myself that not only can I design a sweater, but that I can feel confident and beautiful wearing it.

This feeling is my hope for you as well.

I want you to feel beautiful, confident, sexy, comfortable, and proud of yourself and your body in this sweater.

Sizing, yarn requirements, and a chart of sweater measurements can be found in the photos, but is also detailed below:

Fit:
This sweater is intended to be worn with approx. -4 to 0” (-10 to 0 cm) of negative ease.

Don’t be afraid of negative ease! The lace in the panels on the front and the back allows the sweater to stretch without distorting the cables - it looks amazing on all sizes, promise!

This pattern includes instructions on how to modify the sleeve opening if you need a sleeve that is larger in circumference or a deeper armhole than is written, as well as how to adjust the sleeves to compensate for that modification.

Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4 // 5, 6, 7, 8)
Finished Bust Circumference:
30 (34, 38, 42 // 46, 50, 54, 58) inches /
76 (86.5, 96.5, 106.5 // 117, 127, 137, 147) cm

Sample is shown in size 3 on a 42.5”/110 cm bust with approximately -4.25”/-10.5 cm of negative ease.
Model is 5’5 (1.65 m) tall.

Materials
808 (995, 1245, 1475 // 1777, 2165, 2591, 2919) yds /
738 (909, 1138, 1348 // 1624, 1979, 2368, 2668 m
of Dk weight yarn plus two long pieces of waste yarn to hold your back and left front sts.
The sample was knit in Youghiogheney Yarns Yough DK in the Totally Teal colorway. This yarn is 230 yds/100g skein, 100% superwash merino.

Needles:
• 1 set of circular knitting needles in size US 7 (4.5mm) or size needed to meet specified gauge. The cable should be long enough to hold a sweater of the circumference you are making.
• 1 set of US 7 (4.5mm) DPNs, or preferred needle style for small circumference knitting.
• 1 set of circular knitting needles in size US 5 (3.75mm) or whatever size is size 0.75 mm smaller than the gauge needle. The cable should be long enough to hold a sweater of the circumference you are making.
